MS/AL and North/South All-Star Basketball Player Nomination Forms are now available

It's time to nominate your players again! If you have a player that you would like to nominate for the 2012 MS/AL or North/South All-Star Basketball games, please review the guidelines to confirm that they are eligible.  Click here to download the 2012 Basketball Nomination Guidelines.

If you would like to nominate a SENIOR player for the MS/AL All-Star Game, click here.  To nominate a JUNIOR player for the North/South All-Star Game, click here.  Please be sure to use the appropriate form. 

Fax your completed forms to 601-924-3050.  Players will NOT be selected unless the form is received in the MAC office by Friday, February 10.  The Player Selection Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 29, 2012.

Way to Go Mississippi All-Stars!!!!

Rodney Hood, Meridian and Daniel Grieves, St. Stanislaus, combined for a total of 39 points to lead Mississippi to an 85-74 victory over Alabama at the Pelham Civic Complex. Grieves was named the game's Most Valuable Player.  Mississippi won for the second straight year and now leads the series 11-10.

Kendra Grant, Richland scored 14 points to help lead Mississippi to a 73-60 victory in the 21st annual all-star game against Alabama at the Pelham Civic Center. She was named Most Valuable Player. Mississippi used a second half surge to trim the series to 11-10 and win for the second consecutive year.

Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game Coaches were Boys Head: Keith Robinson, Pascagoula and Asst. Herman Sanders, Wingfield. Girls Head: Mike Coleman, Quitman and Asst. Charles Moore, Franklin County.  These games were played Friday, March 18, at the Pelham Civic Complex in Pelham, AL.
North/South All-Star Game Coaches are South Boys: Frederick Barnes, Brandon and Randy Bolden, Meridian............South Girls: Vicki Rutland, Lawrence County and Terry D'Angelo, Long Beach........North Boys: Jacky Rowsey, Biggersville and Daren Coffey, Calhoun City......North Girls: Stephanie Murphy, Tupelo and Jemmye Ann Helms, West Point
Games will be played at A.E. Wood Coliseum, Mississippi College, Clinton, MS on Saturday, July 9, with the girls' game set to tip off at 1:00 p.m. and the boys' game to follow at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Guidelines for the North/South All-Star Basketball Games

I. Selection of Coaches:
  • Must have been a member of the M.A.C. for at least three (3) consecutive years.
  • Must have been a head coach in a MHSAA school for at least three (3) years.
  • Can only coach in one all-star game per year.
  • Must abide by the M.A.C. Code of Ethics.
  • Must cooperate with the M.A.C. in the sale of ads.
  • Each All-Star Coach will be given two (2) tickets to the game.
  • Each All-Star Coach will receive $175.00 honorarium.
  • Must have demonstrated by past performance that he/she will fulfill all commitments he/she made concerning his/her all-star player(s) as required and specified to by the M.A.C.
  • Recommendations for these All-Star Coaches come from M.A.C. Basketball Committee based on nomination forms submitted by individual coaches; final approval by the M.A.C. Executive Committee.
II. Selection of Players:
  • A maximum of two (2) players on each team can be selected from the same school.
  • Must be a junior graduating with his/her regular class.
  • Must respond to all dated material by the date requested.
  • Female players must not be pregnant.
  • Must cooperate with the M.A.C. in the sale of ads.
  • Must exhibit positive attitude to those in charge at all times.
  • Male players cannot wear earrings. Female players cannot wear earrings in practices or game.
  • Failure to comply with any of these guidelines will result in dismissal from team.

 Guidelines for the MS/AL All-Star Basketball Games

I. Selection of Coaches:

  • The Head Coach must have served as an Assistant Coach in the MS/AL game in a previous year.
II. Selection of Players:
  • Must be a senior who was eligible during his/her senior season.
  • Must respond to all dated material by the date requested.
  • Female players must not be pregnant.
  • Must exhibit positive attitude to those in charge at all times.
  • Male players cannot wear earrings. Female players cannot wear earrings in practices or game.
  • Failure to comply with any of these guidelines will result in dismissal from team.
  • A maximum of two players from MHSAA schools can be selected for the MS/AL game.
III. The All-Star Coaches will receive $200.00 each; the Administrative Coach and the Assistant Administrative Coach will receive $225.00 each.
