The 2016 All-Star Slow Pitch Softball Games were played at Mack Fanning Field (Newton County High School) in Decatur, MS on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
SLOW PITCH (31st Annual)
Class 1A/2A/3A—South 14, North 12 @ Mack Fanning Field, Newton County High, Decatur, MS (North leads overall series @ 5-2-5)
The South came from behind with 7 runs in the 6th inning to defeat the North 14-12. The South was powered by two home runs from Alyssa Davis of Philadelphia who finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Jada White of Philadelphia added a triple while Malerie Thornton of Southeast Lauderdale and Makennah Redd of West Lincoln each hit doubles. The North was paced by Hallie Donald of Mooreville who smacked two home runs and Jaycee Tutor of Wheeler who added a solo shot. Donald finished the game with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with 2 homers, 6 RBI, and 2 runs scored.
Class 4A/5A/6A—North 9, South 1 @ Mack Fanning Field, Newton County High, Decatur, MS (North leads series @ 8-2-2)
The North plated 2 runs in the 1st, 4 runs in the 2nd, 1 run in the 4th, and 2 runs in the 4th to cruise to a 9-1 victory. The only run scored by the South came in the first inning as the South bats were held in check the rest of the game. Kiara Conner of Columbus led the North by going 4-for-4 at the plate with 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a double. The North’s Madeline Dean of Amory was 2-of-3 with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and a solo home run. Sarah Kate Smith of Warren Central added another solid batting exhibition by going 2-of-3 with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and a double. The South was led by Amari Ramsey of Harrison Central who was 1-for-3 with the only run scored by her squad.
Class 1A/2A/3A vs. Class 4A/5A/6A—Game 1—North 1A/2A/3A 23, South 4A/5A/6A 13; Game 2—South 1A/2A/3A 8, North 4A/5A/6A 5 @ Mack Fanning Field, Newton High School, Decatur, MS (Class 1A/2A/3A leads overall series at 2-1-1)
The smaller school classifications swept the large school all-stars to claim the overall series lead at 2-1-1. In the first game, the North 1A/2A/3A squad exploded for 14 runs in the final two innings to outscore the South 4A/5A/6A team 23-13. The North was once again paced by Hallie Donald of Mooreville who was 3-of-4 with 3 RBI, 3 runs scored, and 2 home runs. Jaycee Tutor of Wheeler again had another solid game at the plate as she was 3-of-4 with 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a home run. South Pontotoc’s Brook Lilly contributed with a 3-of-4 game with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and a double. Rebecca Sheffield of East Union was 2-of-4 with 2 runs scored and a triple. The South had scored 10 of their runs in the first two innings and were led by Amari Ramsey of Harrison Central who was 3-of-4 with 5 RBI, 3 runs scored, a double and a home run. Callie Fortenberry of Lawrence County added scoring punch by going 3-of-4 with 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, and a double. Faith Denton of Northwest Rankin was 2-of-4 with 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a double. In the final game of the day, the South 1A/2A/3A team used a 6-run 3rd inning to topple the North 4A/5A/6A ladies by a score of 8-5 to take the series. Alyssa Davis of Philadelphia had a home run and scored two runs while Madison Culpepper of Lake also crashed a homer. The North squad scored three runs in the 3rd and single runs in the 5th and 6th innings, but could not overcome the South’s 3rd inning scoring spree.
