6A MR & MISS BASKETBALL HONORS NETTED BY MYLES, BOOKER

CLINTON, Miss. – The announcement of the inaugural Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards, given by the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) alongside the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and presented by C Spire, wrap up with Makhi Myles of Starkville and Madison Booker of Germantown taking home the honors in Class 6A.

The MHSAA and MAC have teamed up with C Spire to recognize one Mr. Basketball and one Miss Basketball in each of the MHSAA’s six classifications. The winners in each class will be released in consecutive days, continuing with 4A on Sunday (Feb. 19) and concluding with 6A on Tuesday (Feb. 21).

Booker averages 18.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game. The senior led the Germantown Mavericks (26-2) to the top seed in Region 4 and helped her team advance to the state quarterfinals to face Center Hill on February 24 at Mississippi Valley State. Booker also received recognition as a McDonald’s All American for the 2023 class.

For the Starkville Yellowjackets (24-4), Myles averages 19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.1 blocks, 2.8 assists, and 2.5 steals. He led Starkville to the top seed from Region 1 and a state quarterfinal appearance after knocking off Clinton in the second round. Myles and the Yellowjackets will face off with Horn Lake on February 24 at Mississippi Valley State, looking to secure a spot in the state championships at the Mississippi Coliseum next week.  

All Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball winners will be recognized during the 2023 MHSAA State Championships in the Mississippi Coliseum (March 2-4). Recipients will also be honored at a special awards luncheon, which will also be live streamed on the NFHS Network, in the MHSAA Conference Center on March 7.
