The Baptist Rehab Services All-Star Soccer Games were played on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Arrow Field (Clinton High School - Clinton, MS).
GIRLS' SOCCER
2017—South 2, North 1 @ Arrow Field, Clinton High School, Clinton, MS
The South claimed a slim 2-1 win over the North to run the squad’s mark to 7-0-1 in the last eight games.  The South victory sliced the North series lead to 10-9-3.  After a scoreless first half dominated by the North, the South struck first in the second half on a goal by Vallory King of George County off a corner kick by Meredith Follis of West Jones.  The North’s Maggie Overby of Madison Central, who was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player, tied the game at 1-1 on a free kick just outside the penalty area.  With 9 minutes to play, the South game-winning tally was scored by Deanna Green of Brandon who kicked in an empty net goal on a perfect cross by Amanda Sylvia of Long Beach.  Goalkeeper Kayley Fountain of Ocean Springs backstopped the South for the entire second half and was named the game’s Most Valuable Defensive Player.  The South’s Lauren Penny of Gulfport was selected as the Coca-Cola Student Athlete of the game. 2017—North 4, South 0 @ Arrow Field, Clinton High School, Clinton, MS
Brendan Koehn of Amory scored a hat trick of three goals to pace the North to a 4-0 blanking in the 2017 contest.  With the win, the North cut into the South series at 14-12-7.  For his efforts, Koehn was chosen as the game’s Most Valuable Offensive Player.  The Amory senior, who scored 81 goals and 41 assists during his career, recorded his first goal on a header off a crossing pass by Chandler Shirley of Northwest Rankin and tallied his second goal off a corner kick.  He scored his third goal on a through ball just outside the 18. Madison Central’s Parker Trawick scored the North’s final goal on a penalty kick.  The South came close to scoring on a header by Zane Davis of Franklin County and a shot by Ethan Loftin of Bay High, but both attempts sailed just over the goal.  For the South, Andrew Elkins of St. Stanislaus was named the game’s Most Valuable Defensive Player while Zack Beasley of Brandon was selected as the William Winter Scholar Athlete.Â
